thesis
she's editing a 400-page phd thesis on heritage conservation in the middle east and enjoying every minute of it even though it's changing her sleep pattern.
Subhanallah, to be given the opportunity to be involved in such an interesting dissertation is utterly rezeki. she corrects grammar, rephrases with the care she would give to her own research. she restructures sentences to make them more beautiful. stronger.
it is no longer 'work' or a 'chore' when it gives so much pleasure. so much information and knowledge!
she had always wanted to do more than a first degree but somehow did not get to really doing it. circumstances. always some obstacles or other.
but.....just when she accepts the sky after reaching for elusive stars.....
uncanny..... but she is now each day in the thick of academia. she now edits, proof reads thesis of all types, first degree, masters, phd.....in so many varied fields. from all over the world....so very enlightening, so unexpected. and she's being paid for the joy of gathering so much knowledge!
Subhanallh, Alhamdulillah,..... there are so many portals to rezeki....unthinkable, surprising ones......
and the incurable love of knowledge still knows no limits.... flies beyond boundaries.....

new friends for alice and little koko
welcome little kiko, nelly (chanel) and Ar (architect aka tuah).
little kiko has dear big brother kiko's coloring, nelly looks greyish brown while Ar is brownish.
after about two weeks all of them are eating carrots and kangkung from her palm.
in the mornings and evenings when she sits on the rattan chair at the terrace, kiko, nelly, alice, Ar even koko would come to be near her. some lie at her feet. others under her chair. it's as if they want to be near her. the dear loving bunnies...
nelly, kiko and Ar never tire of running in the garden, munching on the grass, kadok leaves, pandan. little kiko even eats the green chillies! and nelly makes a hearty supper of the poor chilly leaves!
meanwhile alice and koko look on - blase!
each time she opens the front door, the little dears instantly come to her! little bundles of furry cuteness, such a pleasant sight for anyone...
love comes in various, such unexpected forms....

the sun n the rain
alice just loves the rain! she'd stand shivering under the raindrops, blonde fur curling wet, eyes looking wistfully into the distance, braving the cold. could she be re-living her childhood?
meanwhile little coco will never miss a chance of sunbathing! her gleaming black fur would stand up to the heat as she savours the warmth, while alice and kiko take refuge under the kind old naza.
well, kiko the 'manja' loves the shade, often laying down under the rattan chair, by the flower pots in the garden, under shady shrubs or by her feet when she's out on the terrace enjoying the sharp morning breeze, the picturesque gloaming or the serenity of a moonlit nite.
to each his own, how true!
this Ramadhan the bunnies have their iftars and sahur too, carrots, yam bean, kangkung, pellets and the occasional ulam raja. in this rather hot month they finish a bottle of water each day compared to one in three days before. or perhaps dear little coco has learned to drink now...
as for her, these few days see a hankering for mixed veggy - carrot, radish, cauliflower, cabbage, french beans, spring onion with lots of garlic, onion and some red chillies. air kelapa is also a favorite, with the refreshingly green amrah (buah kedondong) juice.
its thundering in the distance, a low grumble in the cold morning air. the plants must be thankful for the rain that will follow, quenching the parched earth and splashing on eager leaves....
Subhanallah for Your bounty Yang Maha Esa!

gulai nangka
she loves gulai nangka, the simple kampung dish (of unripe jackfruit), so delicious when eaten with rice, fried ikan kembung and sambal belacan! plain, humble fare but much loved by all and sundry.
a few weeks ago, when in balik pulau, she stopped at a rustic stall by the roadside in sungai rusa, to buy lunch. as it was already about 3 in the afternoon, there was not much 'lauk-pauk' left. so she took the only fried ikan kembung left, a piece of fried tempe, some pajeri nenas gravy and some gulai nangka. she was much surprised when the pakcik charged only RM2.50 for all that! and the amount of rice itself could have been eaten by two persons!
she was rather hungry as she did not have breakfast that morning. so she parked her car along a quiet road in air putih facing the distant blue-green hills and enjoyed the most yummy gulai nangka she had ever eaten! it was really very very good!
so now whenever the kampung lass in her craves for the sumptuous gulai nangka, she knows the place to head for!
behind the sleepy hills and vales, at a little unpretentious stall.........

little coco chanel
little black coco (chanel) came to stay as a replacement for dear departed koko.
coco, a female, was quite tiny when she arrived in april. the little black bundle was placed in a cage as alice was not too kind to her. alice would jump on coco at every chance. (perhaps due to alice being pregnant)
so whenever her cage was being washed coco would be allowed to roam the patch of grass in a small enclosure, safe from alice. after running around with joy in the grass for a few minutes, coco would usually end up sitting quietly on a flower pot, the leaves shading her perfectly.
kiko on the other hand,is always kind to coco, licking her small face when they meet, like the gentle grandpa that he is. coco is not afraid of dear kiko.
however, at the very sight of alice, tiny coco would scamper to hide under the orchids!
she always love watching their funny. lovable antics!
a neighbor said she had never seen such fluffy, 'manja' rabbits before! everytime the neighbor comes for a chat, kiko and alice would sit at their owner's feet, as if guarding her! such loving bunnies!
some nights, kiko would be at the door, lying down in a soft furry bundle, being her guard again?

alice is a mummy
sunday morning (15.6.2015), she stepped out of the house to find 4 little bundles of joy scattered at the porch. alice's babies! two grey (koko's) and two pink (kiko's)!
she placed the tiny ones in a box with some grass, shreds of newspaper and a piece of flannel. they huddled together in a corner, under the flannel.
alice must be exhausted and ate quite a lot. as with other rabbits she calmly ignored her babes!
so the grandma had to search online on what to feed the wee ones. they will open their eyes only on the 10th day. she took a few cotton buds, dipped one in some milk and gently tried to feed them one by one. at first they did not want to open their mouths. but after some persistent touches on their mouths, they started licking the milk!
they were such cute little ones, only wanting to sleep!
now grandma has to think of names for the babies....

an evening by the deep blue sea
it was a long saturday afternoon. the weather was really fine, fluffy white clouds parading the sharp turquoise sky.
she thought of the sea, and the nearest is pantai merdeka facing the andaman sea.
q patiently endured her 60 km per hr driving as they weaved through quaint villages including the historic sungai emas where an ancient settlement of brick palaces and other buildings from the Malay 2 AD old kedah empire were found a number of years ago.
she brought the five kids to the excavation site about 7 years ago. lily, dyr and naj followed her to see the relics and artefacts and listened as she talked to an archaeology professor from ukm. but q and bill had to be dragged from the car!
pantai merdeka was pretty crowded but they found shaded seats under huge casuarina trees. she ate some kueh enjoying the lovely vista, the mesmerising shimmering waves, the two little islands in the hazy distance.
she would have stayed longer but q was restless. on the way home they stopped at the ancient kota kuala muda, once a magnificent fort at an important port on the sungai muda where large ships from far away lands stopped with their cargo to trade for gold, ivory, spice.
she pictured the bustling, vibrant port in its heyday, swarming with merchants from every corner of the old world.... shouts, loud voices in numerous languages, what color, what excitement.....in a heady scent of cinnamon, pepper, cloves.....
what magic.....

little bright blonde, alice
after two weeks in the enclosure on the lawn, yesterday little alice made a houdini yet again.
she ran merrily among the flowerpots and joined the brothers chilling under the high 'skies' of the naza.
(when lily's vios was parked at the porch last wednesday and the naza placed outside, she said to lily that if kiko and koko were to write a short story the title would be 'langit tidak selalu tinggi' or 'the sky is not always high' as the vios is much lower than the aged but beloved nazaria)
when called alice hid under the broad pumpkin leaves busily munching grass. she was caught and placed in the enclosure but immediately ran to a particular spot under the fence and bolted out, showing a little hole on the ground there!
ingenious.
this morning at feeding time alice again hid under the pumpkin leaves but her bright blond fur gave her away. she ignored the first few calls of her name, fearing she would be placed in the enclosure again.
but the delicious chomping on sunflower seeds by kiko lured hungry little alice to the bowls of dewy kangkung, carrot, sengkuang, pellets! she then gobbled the crunchy sunflower seeds from her 'mother's' hand.
the three bunnies, tummy full, then ran around her on the lawn as she did some gardening. she had to watch her step to avoid stepping on the 'manja' rabbits.
the morning was breezy. even some remnants of the full february moon still hung on the brilliant blue zenith. two colorful butterflies flittered among the fragrant jasmine blossoms. a solitary bee visited the tiny deep lavender flowers of the lemuni plant. a hesitant dragonfly hovered over a deep red hibiscus. this is wonderland, a sweet oasis..... her own enchanted, secret garden....
sometimes she fancied some wee little fairies and elves dancing and flitting on the deep green grass on a silvery moonlit nite...
as in 'midsummer's dream', best loved among shakespeare's tales.
beautiful dreams and fancies.....

second adventure
after a few days out of the cage, alice was allowed to spend a cool breezy nite with kiko and koko, wandering in wonderland...
but little alice again found a loophole!
at the usual 5 am feeding and bonding time, alice did not come when called. kiko and koko ate to their hearts' content yet there was no sign of the blonde.
then, hunger and hearing her name called made alice come to the fence from the other side, the neighbor's side! yet again!
alice strayed again from wonderland!
she was cajoled softly to come to the gate. she came within a foot and then returned to the fence, hoping to find a hole big enough for her.
then it had to be the waterworks, to try to force her to come back to wonderland.
but she came out onto the road and ran when approached.
Alhamdulillah, alice found the hole by the gate and rushed in, heading for the pellet dish!
my, was she hungry.
then alice was firmly placed in her cage.
she must have spent the nite on the neighbor's lawn.
ah little alice.....
