she loves gulai nangka, the simple kampung dish (of unripe jackfruit), so delicious when eaten with rice, fried ikan kembung and sambal belacan! plain, humble fare but much loved by all and sundry.
a few weeks ago, when in balik pulau, she stopped at a rustic stall by the roadside in sungai rusa, to buy lunch. as it was already about 3 in the afternoon, there was not much 'lauk-pauk' left. so she took the only fried ikan kembung left, a piece of fried tempe, some pajeri nenas gravy and some gulai nangka. she was much surprised when the pakcik charged only RM2.50 for all that! and the amount of rice itself could have been eaten by two persons!
she was rather hungry as she did not have breakfast that morning. so she parked her car along a quiet road in air putih facing the distant blue-green hills and enjoyed the most yummy gulai nangka she had ever eaten! it was really very very good!
so now whenever the kampung lass in her craves for the sumptuous gulai nangka, she knows the place to head for!
behind the sleepy hills and vales, at a little unpretentious stall.........

little coco chanel
little black coco (chanel) came to stay as a replacement for dear departed koko.
coco, a female, was quite tiny when she arrived in april. the little black bundle was placed in a cage as alice was not too kind to her. alice would jump on coco at every chance. (perhaps due to alice being pregnant)
so whenever her cage was being washed coco would be allowed to roam the patch of grass in a small enclosure, safe from alice. after running around with joy in the grass for a few minutes, coco would usually end up sitting quietly on a flower pot, the leaves shading her perfectly.
kiko on the other hand,is always kind to coco, licking her small face when they meet, like the gentle grandpa that he is. coco is not afraid of dear kiko.
however, at the very sight of alice, tiny coco would scamper to hide under the orchids!
she always love watching their funny. lovable antics!
a neighbor said she had never seen such fluffy, 'manja' rabbits before! everytime the neighbor comes for a chat, kiko and alice would sit at their owner's feet, as if guarding her! such loving bunnies!
some nights, kiko would be at the door, lying down in a soft furry bundle, being her guard again?

alice is a mummy
sunday morning (15.6.2015), she stepped out of the house to find 4 little bundles of joy scattered at the porch. alice's babies! two grey (koko's) and two pink (kiko's)!
she placed the tiny ones in a box with some grass, shreds of newspaper and a piece of flannel. they huddled together in a corner, under the flannel.
alice must be exhausted and ate quite a lot. as with other rabbits she calmly ignored her babes!
so the grandma had to search online on what to feed the wee ones. they will open their eyes only on the 10th day. she took a few cotton buds, dipped one in some milk and gently tried to feed them one by one. at first they did not want to open their mouths. but after some persistent touches on their mouths, they started licking the milk!
they were such cute little ones, only wanting to sleep!
now grandma has to think of names for the babies....
